Ixelles receives golden label for animal-friendly municipality

Contraception for city pigeons is part of Ixelles' animal-friendly policy

Ixelles is committed to animal welfare in its community through many initiatives. For this the commune was awarded the golden label 'Animal friendly commune'. This label rewards the Brussels commune that has done the most for animal welfare.

Ixelles met 9 of the 11 criteria that had to be met. The commune is also committed to the care of 'wilder animals', such as insects and birds. For example, in March 2021 Ixelles started using contraception for city pigeons.

Ixelles is committed to animal welfare and is a real pioneer in this. The municipality can play a good example role for the other municipalities in Brussels, especially regarding the control policy of the city pigeons.
